Spread: 1–12 units ($25–$300), 12 to 1.

The estimated edge is the house edge for your rules plus about 0.5% for each Hi-Lo true count point (0.46% to 0.51% depending on the system). It is shown at the lowest count in each step, and at a count of 0 for the 1-unit step. It is an estimate for practice, not a guarantee. The app rounds it to one decimal place, so it shows −0.5% where this table shows −0.48%.

How the bet ramp works

Counting Edge sizes every bet in units from one five-step ramp: 1, 2, 4, 8 and 12 units, a 12 to 1 spread. You decide what a unit is worth.

Balanced counts bet from the true count to one decimal place, so a Hi-Lo true count of +3.9 is still an 8-unit bet and +4.0 is 12. New to the true count? Use the true count calculator, or read how spreads fit into the beginner's guide.

Bet ramp by counting system

The count at which each balanced system raises its bet. These are true counts.

Hi-Opt II1.67+1.7+3.3+5+6.7

For KO and ReKO the 2-unit bet starts at the key count, which depends on the shoe. The 4, 8 and 12-unit bets start at running counts of +4, +8 and +12 in every shoe.

4 decks−12−2−11−1
6 decks−20−4−17−3

KO publishes key counts for 1, 2, 6 and 8 decks. For other shoes, such as 4 decks, Counting Edge uses 2 minus the number of decks. Details: KO.

Table limits cap your spread

Every table has a maximum bet. If 12 units is more than the maximum, the top steps all become the maximum and your spread shrinks. Enter your table maximum above to see it. With a $25 unit and a $250 maximum, 12 units ($300) is capped at $250, so the spread is 10 to 1 instead of 12 to 1.

Frequently asked questions

What is a blackjack bet spread?
The ratio between your largest and smallest bet. Counting Edge's ramp goes from 1 unit to 12 units, a 12 to 1 spread.
What bet spread should I use?
Practise with the ramp in this calculator: 1, 2, 4, 8 and 12 units as the count rises. A wider spread earns more at high counts but is easier for a casino to notice, and a table maximum can cap it.
How do I set my bet with KO or ReKO?
Bet from the running count, with no division. Raise to 2 units at your shoe's key count, 4 at the pivot (+4), 8 at +8 and 12 at +12.
Why does Omega II need a higher count for the same bet?
Its tags are bigger, so its true count runs about 1.79 times Hi-Lo's for the same shoe. Counting Edge scales each bet step by that factor, so an Omega II bet rises at about the same shoe composition as a Hi-Lo bet.
