How to install the APK

Android installs apps from outside Google Play once you allow the app you downloaded with. The exact wording differs a little between phone makers.

1

Download on your phone

Open this page on your Android phone and tap Download APK. On a computer, download it and copy the file to your phone, or open this page on the phone instead.

2

Open the file

Tap the finished download in the notification shade, or open Files → Downloads and tap the APK.

3

Allow installs from this source

The first time, Android says your browser isn't allowed to install unknown apps. Tap Settings, turn on Allow from this source, then go back. On Android 7 the switch is Unknown sources under Settings → Security. You can turn it off again afterwards.

4

Install and open

Tap Install, then Open. If Google Play Protect warns that it doesn't recognise the app, tap More details, then Install anyway.

Updating

Download the newer APK and install it over the old one. Your settings and session data are kept. Android only accepts an update signed with the same key as the app you have, so an update that installs cleanly came from the same publisher.

Verify the download

Optional, for the careful. Each release lists the APK's SHA-256 checksum in its notes; it's shown above the links once this page has loaded it. Check the file on a computer, changing the file name to match your download:

Commands to print an APK's SHA-256 checksum
SystemCommand
macOS / Linuxshasum -a 256 CountingEdge-1.0.0.apk
Windowscertutil -hashfile CountingEdge-1.0.0.apk SHA256

The APK is signed with a certificate whose SHA-256 fingerprint is:

69:B1:04:CB:37:BC:E3:1E:B6:11:71:08:D3:7E:A4:2F:57:3F:1C:9B:44:45:3A:23:2E:25:9D:69:91:83:39:8E

apksigner verify --print-certs from the Android SDK prints the same value for a genuine APK.
